Paul Mooney : Know Your History - Jesus was Black and So was Cleopatra

I seriously only found out about Paul Mooney from Chappelle's Show... And after watching this movie I'm convinced that he is one of the greatest ever. I think some people who don't like or bored with black comedian talking about racial thing would think that this man is just another boring as usual one. But he is not!

Well he is the one who write for Richard Pryor for a long time, so I think that says enough about what he has done to the world of comedy.
I got nothing else to say, I just want to write down some of the line that I liked so I could read again in the future.

Favorite bit : Black people built the white house, do you think it's called "White House" by mistake?

"Don't mess with my 6-year old, I will cut a mothafucka's head off! And go to the bar, and talk to it!"

What's George W Bush's name? Spell it! How many letter is the first name? 6! How many is the W? 6! And Bush? that's 4, with Jr. makes it 6... 666! (lol)

Blaxicans!!!

"Weapon of mass destruction, I know they have it... Yeah you and your daddy has the receipt!"

He said that Samuel Jackson is too black for the dark side...

And just want to note that he spend all the time on this video sitting down... That's crazy... Even Bill Cosby gotta get up for a bit...

One Night With Dice

I'll just say this, there will be no one ever would have the style and swagger like Dice. Not everyone is going to like his comedy. Hell when I first saw his video I don't even like it... bit by bit, he proved that it is not just dirty talk and John-Travolta-kind-of-look that makes him great.

He's banned from MTV awards after 1 performance, and oh, he had Madison Square Garden sold out twice for his performance. Nuff said...

I think this video was released at late 80s, and consider that he's doing this kind of materials at that time, that's pretty incredible. Well, if you're scouted by Rodney Dangerfield then I think you're bound to do something this great.

The confidence, and swagger... Seriously, the society won't allow this kind of comedian to ever exist again. Although I'm looking forward for anyone to come up with something maybe similar like this... That would be really really interesting to watch.

Favorite bit : The so-called 'adult nursery rhymes' are funny...

"The best part of being gay is you can turn around and talk about football"

And finally, the impression of Stallone and some other stars is pretty surprising... You'll never thought that he could do such thing, and he COULD! in a hilarious style also... And that proves enough that he's not just an asshole trying to be funny... He is a stand-up comedian, and one of the greats also...

Comedy Central Presents : Finesse Mitchell

When I see Finesse Mitchell's performance I thought that he'll be the next Chris Rock on Standup. because just like Chris, he is almost useless on SNL, but when they're given airtime alone, they really killed the audience. I remember seeing Finesse on 'update' on his tip for weekends, how the club is so dark and if the girl he's taking home is a dude. That one is killing me.

But this is about his comedy central special. This is a crazy set... He is an NBC. Natural Born Comic, and could be funny to anyone without even trying. But still could use some improvement on his stand-up. The whole set started out great, but the last half is not as crazy as the first. Eventhough it is still funny for me.

The materials is not that unfamiliar or exactly new, but because his confidence and funny high pitch sound, that make it work.

I'd be waiting more of his performance on DVD or iTunes. I still think he could be a big name in standup.

Favorite bit : The Halle Berry bit and of course, Prince! Prince! Prince! Prince! Prince!!!

Back from Hell - A Tribute to Sam Kinison

I really hope that Sam Kinison were still alive now. I wonder what would he become right now. Probably he'll become an unstoppable force in comedy.

I don't even know where to start on which great things that showed on this Documentary.
He used to be a preacher and preach in church. He made a music video that featured Billy Idol, Slash, Steven Tyler, Bon Jovi, etc. Damn, as George Lopez said, that was a great time for comedy. Gahh, I really don't know which part of this video that's the best. Everything is good and really pictured the achievements and life of Mr. Kinison. I never see any comedians that yells like him, I don't even know who his influence is. They said that when a comedian is on their early days you could tell who they were influenced by. But I can't think of anyone. Maybe Lenny Bruce is the closest, but even he never yelled a so called 'primal scream' like Kinison did.

This movie also provides commentary by many big names in comedy from Chris Rock, Jay Leno, Denis Leary, Ron White, George Lopez, Norm MacDonald, Dom Irrera, etc.

I got nothing else to say but if there's anyone reading this, please watch this movie. It shows the life of one of the baddest comedian ever.

Favorite bit : It's a documentary, but many of the short video stuck on my head (Maybe because he keeps on yelling at me all the time). So the gay necrophiliac and the hungry Africans bit really makes me laugh. Oh and how he told serial killers to kill rappers. Seriously, when a guy can say jokes about those stuff and got away with it? Nothing can beat him...

American - The Bill Hicks Story

I always wonder why Bill Hicks is on such a high place at when comedy central put on their list of 100 greatest stand-ups of all time (at #19). Is it just because he's dead just like Sam Kinison that follows right behind him on the list?

So I look at his video on anywhere I can find, and finally I understood when I watched his video that released at 2009. American - The Bill Hicks Story. This guy is a genius. He wanted to be a comedian since early age, and does perform it in school in front of the other school kids. I think this should be similar to when I watched a footage of Michael Colyar doing his comedy on Venice Beach for open public (That's some crazy shiz).

Anyway that shows an effort that brings the very basic of stand-up, and why everyone do it in the beginning: To make people laugh.

I tried to warp myself to around that year, maybe not late 80s, but around early to mid 90s. With all the war and shit happened at that time in US, and man how this guy could really come up with his materials, and silence the crowd.

And the documentary said that he gained more fame in Europe than the state at some point. He killed at Just for Laughs festival in Canada, and sold out at not just clubs, but at theaters in UK!

He also appeared as one of the young comedians founded by Rodney Dangerfield to perform at his show. I think this is also where Sam Kinison perform. Rodney sure know how to find an excellent comedian, and kill them! (just kiddin, I love you Mr. Dangerfield)

I can't choose any favorite bit on this video because it's a documentary, and I'm blown by the storyline that tells how difficult it is to be a comedian. But the short clip of Bill Hicks and slight animation combined in this movie is just amazing.

I give this one a 4.5 star (of five) Would be great with even more clips from the man :)

Bill Cosby: Himself

I watched Cosby show on TV many times. I think it was one of the funniest show ever. I know that Bill Cosby is a Doctor, my father told me way back but I don't know what kind of Dr. he is (Too lazy to search now :p ). I think without a doubt that he should be given a doctor's degree on comedy.

When I see the older video of his, it just really amazed me. His jokes won't expired. When I see the Noah bit, I literally LMAO. Well, maybe not literally, but you get my point.

And he also got a Mark Twain award for comedy. Only amazing people got that prize. Such as George Carlin, Richard Pryor, Lorne Michaels. He's still performing until this moment.

Anyway, Bill Cosby: Himself is one of my favorite, I think it was released at 83, But I bought it at around 2002 (or 2003?) When I saw it at a local DVD store at a mall in Indonesia. 20 years after it is released, still makes me laughed like crazy. And even now I still put the album on my ipod. Every bit is great. And you can just see this movie with your family at anytime, because he's clean and don't curse much. Well that is if you don't mind the kids listening about drunk types from Mr. Cosby.

His timing is great, didn't waste a lot of time, and it's just a perfect example of a really good stand-up set.

Favorite bit : All, from how people having a good time, dentist, to the childrens. How he worked hard to rais his son to be a great football player, just to see him win at college and yelled "hi mom!". That's classic.

First! My name's Arno, I'm a regular office worker that enjoys comedy.

Third! I made this blog not to review stuff professionally, but just for a reminder of every comedy related stuff that I've watched. I watched a lot of them, but sometimes I looked at some of the cover of a DVD and I knew that I've watched it but can't remember what is the bit/punchline is making me laugh the most inside it.
